Who doesn’t love letterpress? I had the pleasure of creating this heirloom wedding invitation for some good friends of mine. It was a team—no, a family—effort, as both the bride’s mother and grandmother got in on the action. The end result was an invitation that everyone in the family was able to enjoy and cherish as a reminder of this special event.
The invitations arrived at their destinations in a cardstock mailer which housed the muslin bag in which the invitation cards were placed.
The bride’s mother individually machine stitched the cardstock mailers using the same contrast stitching used on the muslin bag.
Recipients found a muslin bag inside the cardstock mailer. Each bag was individually machine-stitched by the bride’s grandmother, included a drawstring, and were stamped with the couple’s custom logo.
The invitation itself consisted of six cards, each with a piece of a story written on their fronts. The card fronts were both letterpress and offset printed. The background designs for each of the six card front contained slightly different artwork so no two were the same.
The stock for the cards took a nice, deep impression.
The pertinent wedding information was spread across the six cards backs, including names, dates, locations and registry information.
The background design for each card back was different so that the information contained on any one card was not lost in the “shuffle” but stood out as separate from the rest.
The project included the design of a logo/chop that the couple was encouraged and excited to use long past their nuptials.
